About MEDS for Africa

Our Beginning

A heart for Africa

Meds for Africa was founded in 2008 when Cherry and David Haymes returned from a short-term mission trip to Kenya and saw the ravages of HIV-AIDS, poverty, malnutrition, and disease in East Africa. They committed themselves to help alleviate some of the suffering they saw. Their goals were to bring aid to Kenya in three areas – health care, dental care, and education and to give an opportunity for short-term mission trips to Americans. Thus MEDS for Africa was born – M for Medical care, E for Education, D for Dental care, and S for Service.

Our Values

Changing children & communities

In its 13 years of existence MEDS has provided:

  • Medicine, medical personnel, and medical supplies and staffing for hospitals and rural clinics.
  • Support to start the nationally recognized Nzoia College of Nursing in Kitale, Kenya.
  • Funding for several early education/feeding programs for preschoolers.
  • Scholarships and financial support allowing teenage girls to continue their education through GEMs -the Girls Education Mission program
  • Dental equipment allowing a volunteer dentist or a Kenyan dentist to provide desperately needed oral care.
  • In partnership with NorthPark Presbyterian Church an eye clinic at the Tumutumu Presbyterian Hospital in Karatina, Kenya that continues to provide quality eye care to this day.
Our Experience

Changing you

MEDS for Africa’s benefits are not limited to Africa. Volunteers who have travelled with MEDS or heard presentations have been exposed to both the needs and the majesty of Kenya through short-term mission trips and educational programs describing the work of MEDS for Africa.

Several NorthPark Presbyterian Church members have travelled to Kenya with MEDS for Africa and as Mary Jo and Jack said, “Our trip to Kenya with MEDS missions changed our lives and our outlook on the rest of the world.”

We’re grateful for the continuing support of the many individuals who have helped MEDS for Africa continue its mission to East Africa. We plan to offer another mission trip in 2022-2023.
